The Book of BeautyCharles J. Peterson 1887 First Edition Hardcover Collection of poetry & engraved portraits of women protected by tissue pps. Illustrated by 9 full page engravings. Boards are discolored especially the back board, pages are yellowing. Edge and corner wear moderate, spine ends bumped and frayed. Decorated endpapers. Includes poems by Poe, Keats, Moore and 19 others. The preface is interesting - half of the portraits are of actual personages. Such as those of Queen Louise, the mother of the present Emperor of Germany, one of the loveliest woman of her day; and of Mrs. Langtry, Miss Fortescue and Miss Branscombe etc. All the real portraits are of foreign beauties; for as yet our pretty american girls shrink from having their photographs sold, merely because of their beauty.
