Montgomery Major: Ruskin called his fable a story for nice children but it is far more than that: it is a beautiful picture by one of the greatest prose painters of England.a classic. The King of the Golden River was written to amuse a little girl; and being a fairly good imitation of Grimm and Dickens mixed with a little true Alpine feeling of my own, has been rightly pleasing to nice children and good for them.
