The Last Earls of Barrymore

John R. Robinson, London, Sampson Low Marston, 1894. First edition. Boards bumped and frayed on all edges and top and bottom of spine. Edges bent in, slight discoloration on back cover. New endpapers so hinges and pages are tight. Half-title, frontispiece, 4 plates, xiv, [2], 272 pp., original cloth, with gilt. It was perhaps not entirely fair to call Richard, 7th Earl of Barrymore 'Hellgate', although it is probable he rather enjoyed the nickname. In the words of modern times, he lived fast and died young - and relished most of it. He died at the age of 24 and he was succeeded by his brother, Henry or Cripplegate as he was also known.
